HODL

Backronymed as “Hold On For Dear Life”, the term “Hodl” was actually an erroneous entry in a subject lodged on the Bitcoin Forum. The subject in question was “I AM HODLING” pertaining to holding a crypto instead of selling it. Since then, it had become slang within the cryptocurrency community to refer to what the forum user originally meant.

When a crypto trader “hodls”, he or she is in effect called, a “Hodler”. Hodl then refers to a type of passive investment strategy wherein one holds an investment for an extended period of time, without considering possible changes in the price of the asset being held or the markets in which it belongs to.

Back in 2017, Quartz , a business-focused international news organization, listed the term, hodl as one of the essential slang terms within the Bitcoin system.
